I’m so excited because this week I received my very first Owl Crate! I was so excited that I didn’t even film an unboxing on my Instagram (@abigailsbookself). This month’s theme is Castles, Courts, and Kingdoms, and wow what a great first box. Let’s get to the goodies!
Up first, probably the most important: the book this month is The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStephano. I’ve only managed to get fewer than 100 pages in, so I can’t give any kind of review yet, but I will say that the premise is amazing. It’s about Wil, the youngest child and only daughter of the king, who acts as a spy and errand-runner for her royal family. She knows she’s different from her brothers, but one night she finds out that when her adrenaline gets running, her hands can turn things into precious gemstone — including living humans. It’s Midas meets Game of Thrones. We also received a signed book plate, and a hand written note from the author. All Owl Crate books have exclusive covers you can’t get anywhere else! We also received cute gem stone temporary tattoos.
We also got this amazing Harry Potter inspired toboggan hat! It’s so cute and seriously high quality. I’m not really a hat person, but I will make an exception to my fashion rules for this adorable hat. It’s an Owl Crate exclusive, so unfortunately it won’t be available anywhere else.
Next up, we have two great body care items, one is a bath fizzy and another is a chapstick (not pictured because I’m already stashing it in my work pockets!). The bath fizzy is Elven Bread Soap (ala Lord of the Rings) from the Fizzy Fairy Apothecary. It smells heavenly! The chapstick is Blueberry Mint balm styled after Game of Thrones from Geek Fire Labs. It also smells great and feels wonderful on my lips. It’s not waxy or colored, so it’s perfect for keeping my lips soft all winter!
We have an amazing, lovely, and timely notebook from Stella’s Bookish Art. It says, “Don’t let the bad days win,” which is a quote from A Court of Mist and Fury. I haven’t read these books yet, but they’re on my TBR! The past few years have been rough for me, and this month I’ve been actively trying to turn things around for myself, and this beautiful notebook felt perfectly serendipitous.
Finally, in honor of the Grishaverse, we have a really cool wood engraved Squaller brooch. I think there were a couple different styles with different groups in the Second Army, so some people may have gotten Corporalki or Materialki where I got a division of the Etherealki. The badge is magnetic, so it won’t damage clothes and it’s really neat looking!
I’m so excited for December’s box, which is themed Seize the Day and will contain items relating to theater and friendship. If you’re interested in trying out this subscription box, which I 10000% recommend, you can sign up here! These also make amazing gifts, and you can purchase older boxes if they’re still available. This company is really great, and I really recommend you give them a shot!
