Harry Potter Holiday Readathon

Immediately after the bell struck midnight on Halloween night, Christmas awoke from its year long slumber. I’m not joking, there were Christmas trees cropping up where mere hours ago a jack-o-lantern was standing sentry. I think we have this discussion as a society every year, but I’ll say it again — I think Christmas came earlier this year. I’m not exactly complaining, because I love the holidays and I’m itching for a good old fashioned holiday season at home this year, but I think the door to Christmastown needs to be fashioned with a stronger lock (isn’t that Jack Skellington’s job?).

Enough griping – here’s the point: It’s time for my newly annual Harry Potter read-athon! I’m starting this up again, and seriously this time, after a half-hearted attempt in the fall of 2014.

Of course it is happening in your head, Harry but why on earth should that mean it's not reaL?

I’m going to power through the Harry Potter series with the gusto of a niffler in a jewelry shop. I’ve been planning this for a few weeks, so when I heard those jingle bells, I was ready. I’m especially encouraged by my new set of paperback books, which, when the spines are aligned, reveal a lovely Hogwarts-at-twilight image. The covers are to die for, and I’ll update each post with photos as I go through the books. I’m also posting them on my bookstagram, @abigailsbookself, if you’re interested in seeing them without my blubber and tardiness!

In celebration I’ve also been doing some Harry Potter crafts which I will also share with photos and how-tos between book posts. Additionally, I’m planning a wintertime trip to Orlando’s Harry Potter World with my sister and best friend, so that’s even more incentive to stick to it and power through. Finally, I’m keeping a handwritten journal for fun with info and lists about the books and characters. I have this luxurious journal that has always reminded me of Tom Riddle’s Diary from the films and it’s been begging me to write in it, and now I know what to put down!

I planned to start November 1, but my books didn’t arrive until November 6, so I officially began with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (the Philosopher’s Stone for all those who are not aggressive Americans) today. Happy Harry Potter Holiday read-athon!

Who is going to join me? ROLL CALL: Gryffindors? Ravenclaws? Hufflepuffs? Slytherins? Who will take up the challenge?

Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home! This 2013 box set is GORGEOUS. You can purchase them brand new in the box or, like I did, purchase them individually used and spend half as much! I have a hardback set, so I wanted a set to write in and used was a perfect idea. All of these came in excellent condition, so I’m very happy with the purchase!
